Snow

...but I don't want to come inside!

I grew up in Milwaukee. Winters are long there and because of the proximity to Lake Michigan, there is a lot of snow. My parents lived on a corner lot for many years so I spent a LOT of time shoveling snow. Enough to last me a lifetime really. When I picked a place to live as an adult, I didn't want to go somewhere that got a lot of snow. Boise isn't perfect, but usually isn't too bad. The average snowfall for December over the past seventy years has been about six inches. Often, if it snows an inch or less, it just melts off the same day. No shoveling required.

Last year I was spoiled. It only snowed 1.7 inches in December. I don't think I had to shovel a single time. That's my idea of winter. This year was different. We had 15 inches of snow in December! It seemed like I was shoveling snow every day. Not my idea of fun.

Not everyone thinks that way though. Like Abby. She is impervious to the cold and loves to play in the snow. She runs and jumps and rolls around in it. At night she will sometimes go in the back yard and just lie in the snow. She was more excited than usual to go for our walks everyday. I would usually let her off leash in the park and she would run at full speed and then slide head first in the snow. She's not a dog. She's an arctic wolf.

At least someone enjoyed our winter weather this year.
